The Slow Rush Merch Collection — 2021

Candle Wax, Crayons, Typography

This project was the result of my experimentation with original typography techniques. My goal was to create a technique which could be used for music graphics. In particular, I wanted to create something with a trippy, psychedelic vibe as that is the style my music taste leans towards. I eventually chose candle wax to be my medium of choice. To create each letter I would melt candle wax and crayons (for color) and then drip the wax onto parchment paper and let cool. Each letter took several layers of wax drippings to complete. Then I photographed each letter and then recorded videos of the wax type melting on a baking sheet over my stove.

I felt that Tame Impala was the perfect band to choose for a merchandise collection like this. The final collection includes a promotional video, Spotify visual animation, graphic poster, vinyl cover packaging, band T-shirt and ticket design.
